Why readers trust DollarBrook

Primary sources, cited

Contribution limits, tax rules, and consumer protections are checked against IRS.gov, ConsumerFinance.gov, and FederalReserve.gov — and the source is named in every guide.

Education, not sales

DollarBrook earns money from advertising, not from ranking products. When a guide mentions a type of account, it teaches you how to compare — it never names a “best” bank or card for a fee.

Corrections, in the open

When a figure changes or we get something wrong, we update the page, change the “last updated” date, and note the correction. Read our editorial policy.

About DollarBrook

An independent personal finance publication for everyday Americans.

DollarBrook exists for one reason: most money advice online is either selling something or written for people who already have plenty. We write for everyone else — the teacher setting up a first budget, the parent comparing savings accounts, the new graduate staring at a first 401(k) enrollment form.

What we publish

Step-by-step guides and free calculators covering saving, budgeting, credit, debt payoff, banking, and long-term investing. Every guide is written in plain English, includes worked dollar examples, and names the primary source behind any official figure — usually IRS.gov, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), or the Federal Reserve.

Editorial standards

  • Accuracy first. Tax limits, insurance rules, and consumer protections are verified against the issuing agency before publication and re-checked when agencies update them.
  • No sponsored picks. No bank, card issuer, or brokerage pays to appear in, or influence, a DollarBrook guide.
  • Uncertainty is labeled. Where a number is an assumption or an example, the page says so. We do not publish statistics we cannot source.
  • Plain English. If a term needs a definition, the guide defines it the first time it appears.

Fact-checking & corrections

Each article carries a “last updated” date. When a reader reports an error — or an agency changes a figure — we verify, correct the page, update the date, and describe the change in our response to the reader. To flag an error, email hello@dollarbrook.com with the page link and what looks wrong.

Who writes DollarBrook

Articles are researched and written by the DollarBrook Editorial Team and published under that byline. We are educators, not licensed financial advisors, and nothing on this site is personalized financial, tax, or legal advice. For decisions specific to your situation, consult a qualified professional. See our full disclaimer and editorial policy.

Editorial Policy

How DollarBrook research works, how we stay independent, and how the site earns money.

How we research

Every guide starts from primary sources: the Internal Revenue Service (IRS.gov) for tax and retirement-account rules, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (ConsumerFinance.gov) for consumer rights and product rules, the Federal Reserve (FederalReserve.gov) for banking and credit data, and the FDIC and NCUA for deposit insurance. Secondary reporting may point us to a question, but a figure only appears on DollarBrook when we can trace it to a source we trust — and the article names that source.

No sponsored picks, ever

DollarBrook does not accept payment to write, rank, or recommend any financial product. We generally do not name specific banks, credit cards, or brokerages as “the best,” because the honest answer depends on your fees, habits, and eligibility — so our guides teach comparison criteria instead.

How the site earns money

DollarBrook is free to read and is supported by advertising displayed on the site. If we ever add affiliate relationships, any page containing an affiliate link will disclose it at the top of the page, and affiliate revenue will never change a recommendation. Advertising never influences what we write or the figures we publish.

Updates and corrections

Finance rules change — contribution limits adjust, laws pass, agencies revise guidance. We review time-sensitive guides at least annually, update figures when official sources change them, and refresh the “last updated” date on every substantive edit. Factual errors reported by readers are verified and corrected promptly.

AI and authorship disclosure

DollarBrook’s editorial team uses research and drafting tools, but every published figure is verified by a human editor against the cited primary source before publication, and the byline — DollarBrook Editorial Team — stands behind the result.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 25, 2026

DollarBrook is a static educational website. This policy explains, plainly, what information is and is not collected when you visit.

Calculators and tools

Our calculators run entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter are never transmitted to us or stored on any server. The admin page’s draft feature stores drafts only in your own browser’s local storage, on your device, under your control.

What we don’t collect

We do not operate user accounts, do not run a newsletter signup on this site, and never ask for financial account credentials, Social Security numbers, or banking details. Please never send them by email.

Advertising and cookies

DollarBrook is supported by advertising. When ads are served, third-party advertising partners (such as Google AdSense) may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising via Google’s Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com) and learn more at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. Advertising partners’ cookie use is governed by their own privacy policies.

Analytics

If aggregate, privacy-respecting analytics are used, they measure page popularity in totals (for example, how many people read a guide) — not to build profiles of individual readers.

External links

We link to official sources such as IRS.gov and ConsumerFinance.gov. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites.

Changes & contact

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. Questions: hello@dollarbrook.com.

All content and calculators on DollarBrook are provided for general education. They are not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and they do not create an advisor–client relationship. See the disclaimer.

Accuracy

We work hard to keep figures accurate and current, but laws, limits, and rates change, and errors can occur. Verify important figures with the official source (such as IRS.gov) or a qualified professional before acting.

Acceptable use

You may read, share links to, and quote brief excerpts of DollarBrook content with attribution. You may not republish full articles, scrape the site at scale, or misrepresent DollarBrook content as personalized advice.

These terms may be updated; the current version always lives at this page with its date.

Disclaimer

Last updated: October 25, 2026

DollarBrook provides financial education, not financial advice. Nothing on this website — articles, calculators, examples, or answers — is a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security or product, or personalized advice about your taxes, investments, insurance, or legal situation.

Worked examples use round, clearly labeled assumptions so the math is easy to follow. They are illustrations, not predictions or promises. Investment returns are never guaranteed, and past performance does not predict future results.

Official figures (such as IRS contribution limits) are published for the year stated and can change. Always confirm current rules at IRS.gov, ConsumerFinance.gov, or with a qualified, licensed professional who knows your full situation before making a major financial decision.
